Renee’s run will honor memory

It was a year ago that Renee’ Rogers lost her life to pancreatic cancer.

The initial diagnoses and Renee’s passing all happened within just four months, family friend Scott Tarkowski said.

“She was a very strong woman and the backbone of her family,” Tarkowski said. “She was a career person, but everything revolved around her family.”

Tarkowski said the Rogers family is very much into helping others, particularly children, in the community. Because of their dedication, the Rogers’ friends decided to honor Renee’ and continue her legacy by hosting a two-day event that will bring out the fun in fundraising.

Renee’s Run is a two part event that will raise awareness and funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a national organization that creates hope through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. The organization raises money annually for direct private funding of research—and advocates for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Because November is Renee’s birth month and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, Tarkowski knew this event had to be bigger and better.

“We wanted to raise more money with a party and a 5K,” Tarkowski said. “We wanted to do something for Renee’ and her family that would not only remember her, but go to a great cause.”

The event begins with a Tiaras, Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes party Friday, Nov. 28, at Savoie’s in Shreveport. The party will start at 7 p.m. and have a live DJ, silent auction, live auction and photo booth. Tickets to the Tiaras, Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes party are $75 per ticket or $1,000 per table (includes 8 tickets).

Renee’s Run will kick-off Saturday, Nov. 29, at 8 a.m. with a one mile fun run, followed by a 5K race at 8:30 a.m. The course starts and finishes at downtown Shreveport across the street from Sci-Port in downtown Shreveport.

Cash awards will be given to the first, second and third place finishers in the men’s and women’s division. The top 10 finishers in the men’s and women’s group will also receive an engraved glass stem. Every participant will receive a commemorative Renee’s Run Coin.

Participants can register online at www.reneesrun.com. Race packets can be picked up at Sportspectrum, 6970 Fern Avenue in Shreveport, on Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. the store closes and Friday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
