Haughton has been cited as one of the safest small towns in the country, according to a new report released Tuesday.
SafeWise’s 100 Safest Small Towns in America highlights small towns with populations between 2,500 to less than 15,000.
Haughton ranked #84 among the safest small towns in the nation in the 2019 list.
To identify the 100 Safest Small Towns in America, the group reviewed the most recent FBI crime report statistics and census population data. Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI were excluded from the ranking system.
Since each of the top 100 small towns reported zero violent crimes, the evaluation is based on the number of reported property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft). To level the playing field, the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city was tallied.
Their report Median income is $57,431 with no violent crime rate, per 1,000 residents, and a property crime rate of 4.54, per 1,000 residents.
