Residents can ‘pick the paint’ of Jimmie Davis Bridge

In conjunction with the rehabilitation of the Jimmie Davis Bridge, the state has invited the public to help “Pick the Paint.”

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that this fall, bids will be taken on a project to rehabilitate the Jimmie Davis Bridge. The project will involve re-decking, performing structural repairs, installing lighting and painting the bridge.

The public will be able to vote on their favorite paint color via DOTD’s website or the “Pick the Paint” Facebook page. Voting is underway now will and continue through May 2.

Possible color choices include: blue, purple, brown, green, gold, grey, orange and red.

Bids for the Jimmie Davis Bridge rehabilitation project will be taken in October 2014. Work on the bridge is expected to begin early 2015 and take approximately one year to complete. Once started, a complete closure of the bridge will be necessary for crews to safely and quickly perform the work.

The Jimmie Davis Bridge was built in 1968 and will cost an estimated $15-$20 million to rehabilitate.

The bridge serves approximately 21,500 motorists per day.

The rehabilitation will improve ride quality and extend the life of bridge.
