A Bossier Parish man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in the November 2013 death of his estranged wife.

Robert Bond, 53, appeared in Bossier District Court Tuesday where the formal sentence was handed down. Last month, Bond pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Annie Bond.

Prosecutors say Bond kidnapped Annie, 46, from her Bossier Parish home last November, killed her, then dumped and burned her body in Webster Parish. Her remains were found in a wooded area north of Bayou Dorcheat.

Bond fled the state, but was later found at a truck stop in Mississippi. Police say he attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head as they approached his vehicle. He received medical treatment at a Mississippi hospital, but was transferred back to Bossier Parish in December 2013.
