Roy Dalton Johnston Sr.
Ivan Community/Benton, LA – Mr. Roy Dalton Johnston, Sr., age 98, of the Ivan Community/Benton, LA passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at his home in Ivan. He was born on January 11, 1922 to Harvey Pleasant and Merle Irene Burks Johnston in the Emma Community. He was a faithful member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy – aboard the USS Bowditch during WWII. He worked for International Paper Company for 15 years and later retired from the Bossier Parish School System after 27 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, farming and raising cattle.
He is survived by his son, Roy Dalton Johnston, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Benton, LA; grandson, Nicholas Ryan Johnston and friend, Chris Chapman; granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Vaughan and husband, Jonathan; two great-grandchildren, Cole Vaughan, Anna Ray Vaughan; brother, W.J. Johnston of Minden, LA; sister, Laverne Bamburg of Martin, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by wife, Lois Allie Johnston; his parents;and daughter, Linda Diane Benson.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions a private family graveside will be held Friday, April 3, 2020, at the Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Benton, LA, with Bro. Larry Deen officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA. A memorial service to remember Mr. Johnston’s life will be planned at a later date so that extended family and friend can attend.
Honorary pallbearers will be Parnell Jones, Jonathan Vaughan, Duane Deen, Ricky Young, George Horst, Jap Gullatt and Chris Chapman.
