Roy Lynn Pilkinton

BOSSIER CITY – A graveside service for Roy Lynn Pilkinton, 90, will be 11 a.m. Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Pilkinton Cemetery in Benton, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Kenneth Paul.

Mr. Pilkinton was born February 21, 1923 in McDade, LA to James Ellison and Ruey Mae Merritt Pilkinton and died January 1, 2014 in Bossier City, LA. He served his country in the United States Air Force in 1941. During the next four years Roy flew many Missions in the three theaters of World War II; in the Pacific as a P-38 Pilot, in North Africa and Italy as a P-38 Pilot and in China, Burma and India making 80 trips across the “Hump” in C-46’s. He also served a seven month tour of duty in the Korean War. Roy received many distinguished honors including The Air Medal with eleven oak leaf clusters, The Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters, The Purple Heart and The Orville and Wilbur Wright “Kitty Hawk” Award in 1997. The “Kitty Hawk” award was presented by former Louisiana Governor Mike Foster. He received the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal from Governor Bobby Jindal in 2013. Roy also served on the Bossier Parish Levee Board for 32 years, four of those as president. He was a member of the Bodcau Soil Conservation District for eight years and served two terms as president. Roy was a self-employed farmer.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, James R. Pilkinton, Harvey G. Pilkinton, David Pilkinton and sister, Mildred Pilkinton.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Amy Hutchins Pilkinton; daughters, Amy L. Pilkinton, Lisa P. Gable, and husband Rick, his “youngest” daughter, Lori H. Padgett; grandchildren, Matthew A. Gable, Sarah F. Gable; sister, Margaret Pilkinton Snyder; nieces and nephews, Becky Pilkinton, Lynda P. Buck, Susan P. Lloyd, Charles “Roddy” R. Pilkinton, Blackshear H. Snyder, Jr., Linda Snyder and a host of friends

Honoring Mr. Pilkinton as pallbearers will be Tommy Pilkinton, Gehlen Padgett, Buddy Padgett, Roy Curtis Menefee, Blackshear H. Snyder, Jr., Matthew A. Gable, Roddy Pilkinton and Kaylan Worley. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Gable, Ralph Merritt, Johnny Breitschopf, Bill McLelland and Jimmie Marston.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Willis-Knighton Bossier and Colonial Oaks Guest Care Center.
