by BPT Staff

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public about a new scam that has been reported by multiple residents in the area. Scammers are calling individuals falsely claiming they have been indicted by a grand jury. The scammer then demands that the person pay a fine immediately to avoid being arrested or sent to jail.

THIS IS A SCAM – Legitimate law enforcement agencies will not call you to demand payment over the phone or threaten arrest if you don’t comply.

REMEMBER

Scammers often use intimidating language to pressure you into acting quickly.

Scammers may use false phone numbers to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement agency.

Scammers may use real names of officers to make the scam more believable.

DO NOT provide personal or financial information over the phone.

Hang up immediately and do not call the number back.

Stay alert, spread the word, and help protect your family and neighbors from falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.
