Benton Elementary hosts “CELEBRATION OF SERVICE”

The Benton Elementary School Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted a special “Celebration of Service” last Friday afternoon to honor all who have dedicated their lives to service. They also decicated the Heroes Track Flag Pole on the school grounds
Hundreds of students were joined by leaders in the community, military members, veterans, family and guests at the school’s flag pole.

Principal Amy Gates opened the ceremony, and Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington gave the opening prayer. LA State Representative Mike Johnson spoke to the students, and Tamara Harville thanked everyone for attending.

“We hope that this event has served to show how extremely grateful we are for the daily sacrifice of serving others. The faculty and staff of Benton Elementary can never say thank you enough to those who have dedicated their lives to serve others. It is truly our honor to have played host to each and every one of you. Thank you for your service, dedication and heart.”


Airline Vikings — WE STAND FOR LIFE! 

The Airline High School Student 2 Student team held Suicide Awareness/Prevention activities last week during all lunch shifts.

Their activities included “chalkboard messages of encouragement from teachers and students, and a 22 push-up challenge to honor the 22 Veterans who takes their lives every day.  Student were also provided with information cards, that provided the Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK (8255) and Suicide Prevention Text Line (741-741).

The student body, teachers and staff collectively averaged 2200 push-ups a day, and all who participated received yellow Suicide awareness ribbons, and/or awareness bracelets which read:  Airline Vikings:  We Stand for Life.

The two students who did the most pushups last week were provided with gift bags at the pep rally, which included 2 Airline Spirit T-Shirts, and gift-card and 1 ticket into Friday night’s game. Jasmine Roberson (Senior) did 236 push-ups and Kadeem Lamont (Junior) did 204 push-ups.

Additionally, Student 2 Student teamed up the AHS Student Council, student section for a Yellow balloon release Friday Night’s football game kick-off, in honor of Suicide Awareness/Prevention Month!

The Student 2 Student team is led by Seniors, Cayleigh Phipps (President) and Lauren Martin (Vice President.  Their teacher sponsor is SMSgt Margo Miller, AFJROTC.


Airline Debate Team competes in Texas tournament

Airline High School’ s Debate Team of Miranda Weathersby and Amanda Watson competed at the Grapevine Classic Debate tournament in Grapevine, Texas on Sept. 9/10, 2016.  They went 3 and 2 which is an outstanding record at this highly competitive national tournament.
