During the campaign, which covers the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Bossier City officers will be stepping up seat belt and child safety restraint enforcement in an effort to increase vehicle safety restraint usage and save lives.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved an estimated 12,584 people in the nation from dying in 2013 and an estimated 263 lives of children under the age of 4 were saved by the use of child restraints.

While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the odds of dying in a crash and reduce the extent of injury.

“Click It or Ticket” runs from May 18 through May 31. The Bossier City Police Department’s participation is funded with federal grant money distributed through the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
