The Pirates of the Red Parrot Head Club invite the public to join them to “party with a purpose” at their second annual “Hurricane Party” Saturday, September 27th, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Krewe of Gemini Den in Bossier City, Louisiana.
The Hurricane Party will be presented by locally owned Southland Printing. All proceeds from the party will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Shreveport. Last year, the event raised $8,000 for the cause. This year, the goal is to raise over $10,000.
The majority of the “Hurricane Party” events will be indoors at the Krewe of Gemini Mardi Gras Museum located at 2101 East Texas Street in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Admission to the “Tropical Island – Pirate – Mardi Gras” themed event includes two bands, family friendly activities, three photo selfie stations, food by Jack’s BBQ on North Market, drinks, college football broadcasts, raffle items, Shot Plinko, and our famous “POTR Shot Ski.” Admission is $25.00 for 21 & up; $10.00 for ages 13-20; and kids are free. Bottomless beer and margarita cups are available for $15.00. Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased online at: www.potrHurricaneParty.eventbrite.com.
Children’s activities include bounce houses, a duck pond with pirate prizes, decorate your own pirate hat or beach ball, temporary tattoos, face painting, and a treasure dig.
The band line-up begins at 2:00 p.m. with the trop rock music of Greg Dillard from of Tupelo, Mississippi. At 5:00 p.m., Shreveport band “Bucket List” will play classics and dance favorites, including a few of Jimmy Buffett’s well known tunes.
A “Booty and Swag Shop” will be selling t-shirts, koozies, pirate and tropical Mardi Gras beads, and fleur-de-lis car decals (created specifically for this event).
New this year is an Alzheimer’s “In Memory/Honor” board where guests can post the names and photos of their loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“Parrot Head” is a commonly used nickname for fans of Jimmy Buffett and the “Pirates of the Red Parrot Head Club” is the Shreveport-Bossier chapter of Parrot Heads in Paradise, a Not-For-Profit Corporation, whose purpose is to assist in community and environmental concerns and provide a variety of social activities for people who are interested in the music of Jimmy Buffett and the tropical lifestyle he personifies.
