Sheriff deputies deliver presents to Shriners Children’s Hospital

Law enforcement officers helped Santa spread some Christmas cheer at Shriners Children’s Hospital Wednesday morning.

The Bossier Sheriff’s Office and Shreveport Police Department; firefighters with the Shreveport Fire Department; media personalities with Townsquare Media; and Santa Claus (aka, Sgt. Buck Wilkins with the Bossier Sheriff’s Office) presented Christmas gifts to two dozen children who are patients at the hospital.

The visit was part of the “Barney Cannon Smile Run” for Operation Santa Claus.

Children were able to visit with Santa Claus and his elves and enjoy playing outside in the foam “snow” created by the Shreveport firefighters.

Operation Santa Claus began in 1984 and is a team effort between the Bossier Sheriff’s Office, Shreveport Police Department, Shreveport Fire Department and Townsquare Media that helps nearly 1,000 less fortunate children receive Christmas presents and puts smiles on their faces.  The namesake for the visit, Barney Cannon, was a local morning radio show host and program director who loved to make children smile.

Operation Santa Claus operates with the generosity of the public, who donate the gifts and monetary contributions to help support the children.  Bossier deputies, Shreveport Police officers and firefighters will deliver Christmas presents to children all throughout Bossier and Caddo Parishes next week.
