Sheriff’s Office offering ladies’ self-defense course

The Bossier Sheriff’s Office is offering a Ladies’ Self-Defense Class on Nov. 19 for residents of Bossier Parish.

The class will run from 6–9 p.m. at the Viking Drive Substation at 2510 Viking Drive in Bossier City. The class is provided free of charge and is limited to 40 applicants. Daughters and female siblings 14 years and older may enroll as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Although there is no cost for the class, the Bossier Sheriff’s Office is asking for your support of their food bank program, Bossier Parish: Operation Blessing, by bringing some canned goods or non-perishable food items as donations.

“The holiday season is a time when we often let down our guard and typically don’t pay as much attention to our surroundings while out and about shopping and visiting friends and family,” said Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington. “Teaching self-defense helps heighten ladies’ situational awareness and encourages them to become more alert to their surroundings to avoid becoming victims of crime. It also gives them some basic skills and confidence to protect themselves at home or in the community so they’re prepared in case of an emergency.”

Call the North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy at 318-965-3525 to sign up.
