The Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Lone Star Brahmas 4-2 in their home opener before 3,434 Thursday night at George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum.
The Mudbugs improved to 3-2. The Brahmas, coached by former Bossier-Shreveport Mudbug Dan Wildfong, suffered their first defeat and dropped to 4-1-1. The teams meet again tonight at 7:11.
Kristaps Jakobsons, Kieran Durgan, Frankie Melton and Garrett Hallford scored the Mudbugs’ goals. Gueorgui Fedulov had two assists. Brenden Gyspers, Erik Zohovs, Steven Mather and Tomas Zeile had one assist apiece. John Roberts saved 28 of 30 shots.
The first period ended with no scoring with the Brahmas outshooting the Mudbugs 12-8.
Shreveport dominated the second period, scoring three goals on 14 shots. The Mudbugs held the Brahmas scoreless on five shots.
Lone Star cut the lead to two with a goal at the 3:57 mark of the third period. Jakobsons answered less than a minute later to make it 4-1.
