The Bossier Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint late Thursday evening into Friday morning in the 5,600 block of Barksdale Blvd.
Officers screened 255 vehicles, which resulted in one DWI arrest, and 12 citations issued for various traffic offenses.  Louisiana State Police, Bossier City Police, and the Caddo Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
The checkpoint began at 10 p.m. Thursday and ended at 4 a.m. Friday, in order to identify and remove impaired drivers from the road before they cause injury or death to themselves or others and to increase public awareness of the seriousness of driving while impaired.
“Compliance with Louisiana driving laws is our ultimate goal in order to keep everyone safe on the road,” said Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington.
Motorists are also encouraged to report impaired drivers to law enforcement at any time.  The message is clear – “Drive sober or get pulled over.”
The sobriety checkpoint was conducted through a $14,040 grant awarded to the Bossier Sheriff’s Office from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for DWI Enforcement.
