Soccer: Airline boys knock off Byrd; Parkway sweeps Southwood

The Airline Vikings stayed undefeated with a 2-1 win over the Byrd Yellow Jackets in boys District 1, Division I soccer action Wednesday night.

Nick Rizzo and Mang Tung scored one goal each for the Vikings, who improved to 3-0 in district.

Arturo Villarreal and Gabe Rodriguez each had one assist. Goalkeeper Collin Jimes had five saves

Jimes also had five saves in Airline’s 0-0 tie with Ruston in the Bossier Bearkat Classic Thursday night at Tinsley Park. Airline is 4-0-1 overall.

In another District 1-1 boys game Wednesday, Parkway picked up its first district victory 6-0 over Southwood. Joe Alvarado had a hat trick for the Panthers.

Haughton dropped a 6-0 decision to Captain Shreve on Tuesday.

In District 1-1 girls games Wednesday, Airline fell to Byrd 6-0 and Parkway rolled past Southwood 10-0.

Airline dropped to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in district. Parkway improved to 3-1 overall and in district.

Haughton lost to Captain Shreve 6-0 Tuesday.

In a non-district girls game Wednesday night, Benton improved to 4-1 with a 10-0 victory over Bossier.

Bossier coach Allen Wood was pleased with his team’s effort.

“We are starting to play better even though the score didn’t show it,” he said. “We never stopped hustling and had a great attitude all the way through.”

The Benton boys raised their record to 3-0 with a 3-1 victory over West Monroe in the Bearkat Classic Thursday.

Sam Vickrey, Ethan Parks and Bailey Grimes all had goals for Bossier.

Daniel Valcho and JB Mercer had one assist each.

Haughton defeated Bossier 3-0 in another boys’ division game.

The Bearkat Classic is scheduled to run through Saturday, weather permitting.
