The Benton Tigers fell to the Loyola Flyers 3-1 in a battle for the District 1, Division II boys’ soccer title Monday night at Tinsley Park.

The game was played in tough conditions with strong northerly winds and temperatures dropping into the mid-30s.

Loyola (13-5-2) finished district play 7-1. Benton handed the Flyers their lone district loss 2-1 on Jan. 9.

Nick Bowers scored Benton’s lone goal on an assist from Edwin Lopez at the 28-minute mark of the first half. But the Flyers scored three unanswered goals.

Benton (16-5, 6-2) rebounded Tuesday night with a 6-1 victory over Minden behind Dillon Rogers’ five goals.

Elsewhere Monday, Bossier picked up a big 2-1 District 1-III victory over Calvary in a penalty-kicks shootout, the Airline boys fell to Caddo Magnet 3-1 in District I-I, and the Benton girls lost to fourth-ranked Loyola 10-0 in District I-II.

Baha Abdelrahim scored Bossier’s goal in regulation against Calvary, which was tied for first in the district with Evangel.

Coach Brad Bernard said freshman Mario Flores played outstanding on defense and Khalil Bolden had his best outing of the year at goalkeeper.
