With a little over two weeks left in the regular season, several Bossier Parish high school soccer teams are making strong bids to make the playoffs.

Leading the way are the Benton boys, who are 14-3 overall and 4-0 in District 1-II heading into Tuesday’s game at North DeSoto (9-2-1, 4-2).

soccer2Benton edged North DeSoto 4-3 in the teams’ first district match Dec. 12 at Tinsley Park.

Benton’s Dillon Rogers is the leading scorer in Northwest Louisiana with 25 goals. North DeSoto’s Aapo Alenius is second with 19.

The Benton girls (9-5-0, 4-1) also have a key district game Tuesday at North DeSoto (12-5-1, 6-1). The Lady Tigers lost the first district meeting between the two 4-1.

Benton’s Shelby Plunkett is the fourth-leading scorer among area girls with 16 goals.

Benton still has two games left against District 1-II leader Loyola (20-2-2, 5-0).

The Airline boys (11-5-1, 5-1) are a half-game out of second place in Division I-I. The Vikings will be busy over the next two weeks with six district games left thanks to weather postponements, including two against leader Captain Shreve (13-0-1, 7-0).

The Parkway girls (10-5-2, 8-2) are all but assured of a playoff berth. With two games left, including one against leader Byrd (19-4-1, 8-0), the Lady Panthers appear headed for a second- or third-place district finish.
