Soccer: Regular season hits home stretch

High school soccer’s regular season has entered its final week.
Only the Benton boys and Parkway girls are virtual shoo-ins to make the playoffs.
Both also have chances to win or share district titles.
Benton, which is scheduled to wrap up District 1-II play against North DeSoto Tuesday night, was fifth in the latest unofficial power rankings and should host a first-round game.
Parkway, which improved to 8-1 in district Monday with a 6-0 victory over Haughton, plays at Byrd tonight with a chance to move into a tie for the District 1-I lead.
Mackenzie Kleinpeter scored three goals in the Lady Panthers’ victory over Haughton. Morgan Provost, Liz Knight and Madison Mitchell also scored. Miranda Scotten had two assists.
Also Monday, Airline rallied for a 2-1 victory over Byrd in a boys District 1-I game.
Gabe Rodriguez scored the game-tying goal and Gin Pau scored with about 10 minutes left to win it.
Parkway downed Haughton 4-0 in another 1-I game.
In a Division 1-II girls game, Benton knocked of Minden 4-0 at Minden. Freshman Braylin Shaffer had a hat trick. Jenny Cox also scored.
At No. 21 in last week’s power rankings, Benton has a shot at making the playoffs.
