Benton’s Dillon Rogers and Edwin Lopez grabbed two of the individual honors on the All-District 1, Division II boys soccer team selected by the coaches.

Rogers was named Offensive MVP and Lopez co-Defensive MVP.

Rogers, a senior, led Northwest Louisiana with 42 goals. That was also second-best in the state in Division II.

Lopez, a senior defender, was one of the main reasons the Tigers allowed the fewest goals among Bossier Parish teams.

Benton finished 19-6 after losing to Division II finalist Vandebilt Catholic 3-1 in the second round. The Tigers placed second in the district, one game behind Loyola.

Three other Tigers were selected to the first team — senior forward Ethan Whitehead, junior defender JB Mercer and sophomore midfielder Sam Vickrey.

Whitehead scored 12 goals and had seven assists. Vickrey had four goals and four assists and was a “big part of our offense,” Benton coach Bryan George said.

Benton placed five players on the second team — Nick Bowers, Ethan Parks, Cole Grimes, Ryan Mutchler and Daniel Valcho.

Rayne Duque, Mitchell Matthews and Bailey Grimes made honorable mention.

Loyola took three of the top individual spots on the team.

Senior Harrison Carruthers, who scored 21 goals and had 19 assists, was named the Overal MVP.

Senior Sam deBerardinis was named co-Defensive MVP, and Trey Woodham earned Coach of the Year honors.

Benton placed four players on the All-District 1-II girls first team — forward Shelby Plunkett, midfielder Abby Lauterbach, and defenders Baileigh Howard and Chelsea Rangel.

Plunkett was one of the top scorers in the area with 31 goals. Lauterbach scored 11 goals.

Forward Morgan Payne, midfielder Kaitlyn Sykes, midfielder Jenny Cox and defenders Kayla Laws and Bridget Brown were named to the second team.

Making honorable mention were Kirsten Basco, Hannah Easter and Piper Flood.
