Airline scored four runs in the bottom of the first extra inning to rally past Benton 6-5 Friday night at Airline.
The game was part of the North DeSoto tournament and it was the season opener for Benton. Airline also defeated St. Frederick 16-1 earlier Friday.
Parkway downed North Webster 3-2 in Stonewall in the North DeSoto tournament. The Lady Panthers face defending Class 4A champ North DeSoto today.
Elsewhere, Haughton lost to Oak Hill 6-4 at Haughton. The game was part of the Northwood/Southwood tournament.
At Airline, the Airline-Benton game was tied at 2 after seven hard-fought innings. The extra-inning tiebreaker is being used in the tournament so Benton’s Abi Cole was placed on second to start the eighth.
Cole advanced to second and third on singles by Hallie Saintignan and Sarah Koeppen. Ashley Hunter reached on an error and Cole and Saintignan scored. Koeppen scored on Taylor Jones’ sacrifice bunt, making it 5-2 with one out.
Airline pitcher Hannah Hutson got a strikeout and groundout to end the inning.
Airline’s Jessica Baffuto was placed on second to start the bottom of the eighth and advanced to third on Maddie Ennis’ groundout. Baffuto stole home to make it 5-3.
Hutson singled to score Jamie Roberts, who had reached base on an error and advanced to second on Baffuto’s steal. Kourtnee White tied the game with a double to left field, scoring courtesy runner Brooklyn Brandon.
The Lady Vikes loaded the bases thanks to an error and Olivia Broussard’s single. Kaylee Adams walked to score White with the winning run.
Ennis went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the second. White had two doubles. Kaitlyn Walker went 2-for-4.
Hutson and Melissa Gillenwater combined on a seven-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Benton’s Abi Cole went 2-for-4 with a double. Hallie Saintignan also had two hits. Mackenzie McEntee drove in both of the Lady Tigers’ runs in regulation with a two-out single in the first.
Hunter went the distance, allowing 10 hits and striking out nine.
Katie Briggs pitched a four-inning two-hitter and struck out seven in Airline’s win over St. Frederick.
Kelci Johnson went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and five RBI. Walker had two doubles. White, Adams and Ennis had one double each. Brittany Nelson, Ennis and White all had two RBI.
The Lady Vikings improved to 3-0.
At Stonewall, Maecy Ingram went 2-for-3 with a double in Parkway’s win. Madelyn Elliott also had two hits. Kendall Lewis and Samantha Guile had doubles. Guile allowed four hits and struck out 11. She now has 35 strikeouts in three games.
Parkway (2-1) rallied from a 2-1 deficit, scoring two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh.
Elliott singled, advanced to second on Allie Hunt’s hit and scored the tying run on Rebecca Lynch’s hit. Lewis then doubled to center field, scoring Hunt.
Guile set the Lady Knights down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
