Softball: Airline standouts shine in prestigious national tournament


Airline players Raelin Chaffin, Makenzie Chaffin and Caroline Easom helped Houston-based Impact Gold 16U National-Jazz post a top-15 finish in the Premier PGF championship tournament held July 28-Aug. 4 in Huntington Beach, Calf.

The tournament attracted 155 teams and is considered the top tournament of the year for elite travel teams.

The threesome faced some of the nation’s top pitchers in bracket play.

Easom, a junior and Houston commit, batted .389 (7-for-18) with five RBI and a double.

Makenzie Chaffin, a senior and UT-Tyler commit, hit .385 (5-for-13) with three RBI, four walks and two doubles.

Facing some of the nation’s top hitters, Raelin Chaffin, a sophomore and LSU commit, struck out 14 batters in 12 innings.
