Softball: Benton picks up first win; Haughton rolls; Bossier splits DH

After three tough one-run losses to start the season, the Benton Lady Tigers picked up their first victory Monday, routing Loyola College Prep 15-0 at Benton.

All three of Benton’s losses came down to the final inning. The Lady Tigers made sure that wouldn’t happen against Loyola, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings. Benton blew the game open with eight runs in the third.

The Lady Tigers (1-3) ended the game via the 15-run rule with a run in fourth.

Abi Cole went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Hallie Saintignan also had three hits, including a double. Abby Kent had two doubles.

Makenzie Chaffin went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Sarah Koeppen had two hits and two RBI. Ashley Hunter had a two-RBI double. She also pitched a three-hitter.

Elsewhere Monday, Haughton routed Lakeside 15-0 at Haughton.

Savannah Salley went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Lacey Dodson continued her great start to the season, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Leah Hopson also had three hits. Keeleigh Bennett went 2-for-3. Shelby Hensley and Hannah Borah had doubles.

Hensley pitched a four-inning one-hitter. She struck out eight.

The Lady Bucs improved to 4-1.

Bossier split a doubleheader against Jonesboro-Hodge, losing the first game 21-7 and winning the second 17-16.
