Softball: Benton runner-up in 1-4A; Haughton blanks Southwood; Bossier wins

The Benton Lady Tigers routed Caddo Magnet 15-3 in a District 1-4A game Monday at Magnet.

The Lady Tigers, 14-9 overall, improved to 4-2 in 1-4A. Benton has clinched the runner-up spot in 1-4A behind defending district and state champion North DeSoto.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play five games in the next seven days to close the regular season. At No. 19 in the latest power rankings released by the LHSAA, Benton will be going to the playoffs. The Lady Tigers still have a chance to crack the top 16 and host a home game in the first round with a strong finish.

Ashley Hunter pitched a five-inning one-hitter with five strikeouts against Magnet. She also went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.

The Lady Tigers pounded out 15 hits. Abi Cole went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Hallie Saintignan went 3-for-3.

Mackenzie McEntee went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Abby Kent had two hits and two RBI. Taylor Jones went 2-for-3 with a double.

Elsewhere, Haughton defeated Southwood 11-0 in a District 1-5A game at Haughton, and Bossier dropped Ringgold 25-0 in a non-district game at Ringgold.

Haughton pitcher Shelby Hensley had a big game. She pitched a six-inning three-hitter and struck out six. At the plate, she was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Keeleigh Bennett went 3-for-4. Courtney Garrett had three hits. Savannah Salley had a double and two RBI.

Winning pitcher Bailey Phillips went 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run against Ringgold. Asya Walker had a triple.
