The Haughton Lady Bucs edged the Airline Lady Vikings 3-2 in a District 1-5A pitchers’ duel Tuesday at Haughton.
Elsewhere, the Parkway Lady Panthers rebounded from their first District 1-5A loss to Haughton on Monday with a 7-6 victory over Caddo Magnet at Magnet.
The Benton Lady Tigers rocked Loyola 14-7 in a District 1-4A game at Loyola.
At Haughton, the Lady Bucs’ Anna Dies and Ashley Smith and the Lady Vikings’ Hannah Hutson all turned in outstanding efforts on the mound.
Smith pitched the final three innings for the win, allowing one hit and no earned runs. Dies allowed two hits in four innings.
Hutson gave up just four hits in six innings and struck out seven.
The Lady Bucs (12-5, 6-0) broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth.
Savannah O’Neal led off the inning with a single and moved to second when Lacey Dodson was hit by a pitch.
Savannan Salley reached on a fielder’s choice and Dodson advanced to second. Lauren Edwards then scored Dodson with a single to center field.
Dies scored in the first as Haughton took a 1-0 lead. Airline’s Kelci Johnson and Olivia Broussard scored in the fifth to put the Lady Vikings up 2-1.
Keeleigh Bennett and Leah Hopson had singles in the bottom of fifth and Haughton got one to tie it.
Haughton and Byrd are the only two teams without a loss in District 1-5A.
At Magnet, the Lady Panthers (14-9, 7-1) survived a scare from Caddo Magnet.
Parkway led 6-0 through 4.5 innings, but the Lady Mustangs scored six in the bottom of the fifth to tie it.
Brittany Bryant got things going in the top of the sixth with a two-out double. Hannah Kennady followed that with a single to center field, scoring Bryant.
Mary Kate Bozeman led Parkway’s 14-hit attack with three hits. Rebecca Lynch went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Alexis Rayborn, Kaytlyn Guerrero and Kennady had two hits apiece.
Starter Allie Hunt allowed five hits and two earned runs. Samantha Guile struck out five in two innings of relief.
The Lady Panthers visit Byrd today at 6.
At Loyola, Sarah Koeppen had a home run, triple and two RBI for the Lady Tigers (11-9, 2-1). Yancey Cox had two hits and two RBI. Hallie Saintignan went 2-for-3 with a double.
Abi Cole and Savannah Collo also had two hits. Mackenzie Stewart had two RBI.
