Softball: Parkway, Haughton, Benton, Bossier win season openers

The Bossier Lady Kats, Haughton Lady Bucs and Parkway Lady Panthers opened the softball season with victories Monday.

Bossier knocked off Fair Park 12-1, Parkway eased past Calvary Baptist 10-8 and Haughton routed Captain Shreve 11-2.

Tuesday, Benton opened its season with a 10-9 victory over Parkway at Benton. The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for the victory.

Haughton’s season opener was also its District 1-5A opener.

Haughton broke open the game in the third inning, taking a 9-1 lead.

Haley Krumpelbeck led the Lady Bucs, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Anna Dies went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Brooke Payton and Lacey Dodson both had two hits and one RBI.

Kirsten Martin went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

At Calvary, Haydn Parker and Rebecca Lynch were among the players who had multiple hits for Parkway. Full stats weren’t available at press time.

Louisiana Tech signee Katie Smith went 3-for-4 with a double for Airline in a game that was played at Northwestern State.

Bailey Tuberville went 2-for-2 with a double. Ashley Salinas had a double.

Pineville built a 9-0 lead before the Lady Vikings scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth.

April Sainz struck out seven and walked only two in Bossier’s victory.

Alyssa Tuggle had two RBIs as all of the Lady Kats reached base at least once.

At Benton Tuesday, the Lady Tigers’ Alyssa Malone had a double in the seventh inning and Brittany Craig had a two-out hit. Benton also took advantage of some Parkway errors.

Yancy Cox went 2-for-4, including a home run in the third inning. Gabby Kespelher went 2-for-5. Craig had two hits, including a double. Abby Cole had two hits.

Sarah Koeppen pitched well in relief. She also reached base twice and scored two runs.

Carol Cash led Parkway with two hits. Jordan Hubbard had a double and three RBIs. Brooke Stigall also had a double.
