The Parkway Panthers took sole possession of the District 1-5A softball lead with an 11-1 victory over Southwood on Wednesday at Southwood.
The Lady Panthers improved to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in district. Parkway visits defending district champion Byrd (4-7. 3-1) Thursday.
Elsewhere, Airline suffered its first 1-5A loss 8-7 at Evangel Christian. The Lady Vikings scored three runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-5 lead. But the Lady Eagles came back with three in the bottom of the inning.
Airline, which visits Captain Shreve Thursday, dropped to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in district. Evangel improved to 7-7 overall and 3-2.
At Parkway, the Lady Panthers’ Samantha Guile allowed just one single and struck out 12 in six innings.
Rebecca Lynch went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Kendall Lewis had two hits, including a double. Hannah Kennady had a two-run triple. Madelyn Elliott had three RBI. Brittany Bryant and Abbie Norcross both had singles.
At Evangel, Brittany Nelson’s two-out, two-strike double with the bases loaded gave Airline a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh. But the Lady Eagles smacked three doubles in the bottom of the inning and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly.
Airline’s Maddie Ennis went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Kourtnee White had two hits. Kelci Johnson had a double. Hannah Hutson had a single.
Evangel broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the third. Airline rallied with four in the top of the fifth.
Johnson led off with the double and advanced to third on Hutson’s sacrifice. Jessica Baffuto walked to put runners at first and third. Baffuto stole second and Johnson stole home to cut the Lady Eagles’ lead to 2-1.
Baffuto moved to third on a single by White and Kaylee Adams walked to load the bases. Ennis then hit a double to center field to give Airline a 4-2 lead.
It was short-lived, though, as Evangel came back with three in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-4 lead.
White got things going for Airline in the seventh with a one-out single. Adams and Jamie Roberts walked to load the bases with two outs. After fouling off two two-strike pitches, Nelson belted a double to center field to give the Lady Vikings the 7-5 lead.
