Softball: Strong start for Bossier Parish 1-5A teams

Bossier Parish softball teams got off to a strong start in District 1-5A Thursday night.

In district openers, Airline walloped defending champion Byrd 11-1, Haughton routed Captain Shreve 15-0 and Parkway slipped past Evangel 3-1.

The games were also the season openers for Airline and Haughton.

At Airline, Hannah Hutson pitched a 3-hitter and struck out nine for the Lady Vikings.

Freshman Maddie Ennis, a member of the Bossier All-Stars team that finished runner-up in the Little League World Series in 2014, went 4-for-5 with three doubles and an RBI.

Eight Lady Vikings had hits.

Brittany Nelson went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Jamie Roberts had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Kelci Johnson went 2-for-2 with a double. Kourtnee White had two hits and two RBI.

White was also a member of the Little League World Series team.

Olivia Broussard had a double and two RBI. Hutson also had a double. Kaitlyn Walker had a hit, and Kaylee Adams had an RBI.

At Haughton, Shelby Hensley pitched a four-inning one hitter in the Lady Bucs’ victory. Hensley also had two hits and an RBI.

Leah Hopson went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Savannah Salley had two hits and an RBI. Courtney Garrett and Keeleigh Bennett each had an RBI. Lacey Dodson and Kaytlyn Guerrero also had hits.

At Evangel, Parkway ace Samantha Guile pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts. The 2015 All-Parish first-team selection didn’t walk a batter.

Kendall Lewis had her second straight outstanding game at the plate. She went 2-for-3, including a three-run homer in the fifth. Lewis also homered in the season opener.

Her homer against Evangel came with two outs. Madelyn Elliott and and Makayla Strother both reached base on singles before Lewis put the ball over the centerfield wall.

Rebecca Lynch also had a hit.
