The four weekends in March of 2016 are going to be filled with bowlers as the 2016 Southern Bowling Congress comes to town March 4-5, March 11-12, March 18-19 and March 25-26. The event is spread over four weekends and will involve some 3,500 bowlers. Kelly Wells, Vice-President of the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, made the announcement of the event at 2pm news conference held at Bossier City’s Horseshoe Hotel and Casino Wednesday afternoon. Wells estimates that an additional 3,500 people (friends and family) will accompany the bowlers – making a total of approximately 7,000 people that will be here – spread out over the four weekends of the event. Wells went on to say that there will be an estimated overall economic impact of approximately $2.8 million as a result of this event being held in Shreveport-Bossier City.
This will be the third time that the Southern Bowling Congress has been held in our area. This event was first here in 1947, then again in 1961 and now some 55 years later, it returns to Shreveport-Bossier City! Holiday Lanes in Bossier City will be one of the host sites for the event, as well as All Star Lanes in Shreveport. Melanie Coleman, owner of Holiday Lanes in Bossier City, also spoke at the news conference. Ms. Coleman said that hosting this event is a huge win and wonderful opportunity for both Holiday Lanes and the Shreveport Bossier area at large.
