The Haughton Buccaneers, Bossier Bearkats and Benton Tigers posted victories in the annual Freshman Jamboree last Thursday at Bossier’s Memorial Stadium.
It was the first official event staged on Bossier’s new artificial turf field.
Haughton defeated Parkway 6-0 in the opener. Bossier eased past North DeSoto 7-6 in the second “game.” Benton downed Airline 6-2 in the third.
Each “game” consisted of eight-minute halves.
Quarterback Coleman Stafford scored Haughton’s touchdown on a 6-yard run. He also completed long passes to Jackson Voigt, Hunter Tolbert and Parker Lowrie.
Zach Haley sealed the victory with a sack. He also forced a fumble and recovered one.
Parkway quarterback Jayden Hardy broke loose for a long run down the sideline late in the game that would’ve given the Panthers a chance to tie, but it was erased by a penalty.
Haughton hosts Minden, and Parkway hosts Airline in season openers Monday.
Sentavion Burns scored Bossier’s touchdown on a short run. He also made a big defensive play to stop a two-point conversion attempt after a late long TD run by North DeSoto’s David Atkins.
Burns also scored a rushing touchdown in the varsity jamboree Friday night at Airline.
Diego Lopez kicked the decisive extra point for the Bearkats, who host Woodlawn in their season opener Monday.
Luke Ward scored from about 10 yards out in Benton’s win. Quarterback Caleb Cassidy did a good job running the Tigers offense.
Airline recorded a safety in the final minutes after a low punt snap. After the Tigers kicked off, Airline quarterback Gavin Ashworth made some nice passes downfield but Benton defenders were able to make a play each time
