Sub-varsity: Haughton edges Benton; Airline, Parkway, Plain Dealing win

The Haughton Bucs edged the Benton Tigers 12-7 and 14-8 in freshman and junior varsity games, respectively, Monday at Benton.
Elsewhere Monday, the Parkway Panthers dropped the North Webster Knights 24-8 in a freshman game and the Plain Dealing Lions defeated the Lakeside Warriors 46-14 in a junior varsity game. The Airline Vikings split games with Byrd, winning the freshman game 40-8 and losing the JV game 28-24.
Last week, Airline swept the Bossier Bearkats in freshman and JV games, 28-0 and 27-12, respectively.
At Benton, Darius Brooks hit Colt Shankle for a 32-yard touchdown as time expired to lift Haughton to the junior varsity win.

Connor Polk caught a 10-yard pass from Pryce Curry for the Bucs’ other touchdown. Lavonta Gibson scored a conversion.
Garrick Whitehurst and Edgar Washington had interceptions for the Bucs.
Johnny Vanvekhoven recovered a fumble.
Benton’s touchdown came on a pass from Jonathan Thompson to Johnny Westmoreland. The duo also hooked up for the conversion.
Quarterback Jalob Walker scored both of Haughton’s touchdowns in the freshman game on runs in the second half.
Garrett Hable passed to Jermain Newton for Benton’s TD and Carter Parks kicked the PAT.
Lavar Allen and Eric Williams scored offensive touchdowns, and Craylon McGhee scored a defensive TD in Parkway’s freshman victory over North Webster.
Brian Fielding rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Airline JV past Bossier.
D’Kameron White also scored once, and Thomas McKain threw a touchdown pass to KJ Bilbo.
Airline coaches said defensive standouts included Josh James, Drew Brewster, Anthony Durgin, Traylen Chapple and Bryson Vance.
Tarik Demery passed for two touchdowns and ran for one to lead the Airline freshmen to the win. Coby McGee and Randy Combs caught TD passes.
At Sibley, Thomas Gay caught a touchdown pass from Matt Sullivan and ran for a TD in Plain Dealing’s victory.
Kylon Stromile ran for two touchdowns. Sullivan and Shavolyea McKinney had rushing touchdowns.
Plain Dealing coach Coy Brotherton said Frankie Kimbell and Jay Johnson played well on defense.
