Mitch Downey -- BAFB Honorary Commander

Superintendent Mitch Downey is taking on a new role in addition to leading Bossier Schools; he
has been named an Honorary Commander for the 2nd Mission Support Group at Barksdale Air
Force Base (BAFB).

Col. Randy Whitecotton, Commander of the 2nd Mission Support Group, Command Chief
CMSgt Jamie Prince, and Jacqueline Robertson, BAFB School Liaison were at the February 25
Bossier Parish School Board meeting to formally welcome Downey into the fold.

Bossier Schools Military Services Manager Georgette Price explained in remarks, ā€œThe goal of
the Honorary Commander Program is to build and maintain a strong and lasting bond between
Barksdale Air Force Base and surrounding communities, while exposing community leaders to
the mission of the 2nd Bomb Wing and the important role of today’s military.ā€

The Honorary Commanders Program serves as an opportunity to educate key community
leaders about the innovative missions of Barksdale Air Force Base, foster a supportive
relationship with the community, increase military involvement in civic endeavors and
organizations, and demonstrate the connection our community and BAFB share.

As a military connected child himself and lifelong educator, Downey has impacted the lives of
many military children from BAFB. As a former coach, Assistant Superintendent and now
Superintendent, Downey has valued and promoted a strong working relationship with BAFB and
all of the district’s initiatives to support military students and families.
