For 100 years, Arsenal Hill Power Plant has stood as a symbol of progress, powering homes, businesses and industries while supporting generations of growth and development across northwest Louisiana and beyond.

SWEPCO recently marked 100 years of power generation at its historic Arsenal Hill Power Plant. To celebrate the milestone, company leaders joined employees on-site to recognize a century of service to customers and communities, and honor the employees, past and present, who have contributed to Arsenal Hill’s remarkable legacy.

“This milestone is a testament to the generations of employees who have powered Arsenal Hill day and night for the past 100 years,” said David LaBrecque, SWEPCO plant manager. “Their dedication has helped us deliver the reliable energy our customers depend on every day.”

To commemorate the occasion, SWEPCO brought together more than 100 current employees, retirees and company leaders to celebrate the plant’s legacy and the people who helped build it.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of a historic brass nameplate from Arsenal Hill’s No. 2 generator, the plant’s first generating unit capable of producing megawatts. The nameplate, a tangible piece of the plant’s history, will be preserved and displayed at the facility as a reminder of the innovation and dedication that helped shape the company’s success over the past century.

The celebration also provided an opportunity for employees and retirees to reconnect, share stories and reflect on the plant’s important role in the community. Employees honored the generations of workers whose commitment helped keep the lights on for customers throughout the region.

As SWEPCO marks 100 years of generation at Arsenal Hill, the company continues investing in infrastructure and system improvements to support reliability and meet growing energy demand.

Earlier this year, SWEPCO President and COO Brett Mattison told members of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee that the company is “committed to building a stronger, more reliable system to meet customers’ needs in every season.”

That focus underscores the ongoing importance of dispatchable generation resources such as Arsenal Hill, which remains part of SWEPCO’s generation fleet and provides power that can be called on during periods of high demand and extreme weather.

One hundred years after it began operating, Arsenal Hill continues to play a role in serving customers across the region while reflecting the company’s long history of providing electric service to communities in Northwest Louisiana.
