SWEPCO and Sci-Port celebrate National Electrical Safety Month with SWEPCO Safety Day

SWEPCO will sponsor SWEPCO Safety Day at Sci-Port Saturday, May 21, offering half-price admission. In honor of National Electrical Safety Month, special programming will be offered by SWEPCO and Sci-Port.
The AEP Foundation will present Sci-Port with a $300,000 check at 1 p.m., for funding that will help develop a traveling outreach exhibit on the science of energy.
SWEPCO Schedule of Events:
- PowerTOWN safety demonstration at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
- Louie the Lightning Bug buzzes through Sci-Port at 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.
- Customer Services representatives and the Energy Efficiency Department will be available for questions about safety and billing from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Sci-Port Schedule of Events:
- Watt’s Current? – Nikola Tesla and Electricity demonstration at Noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
- Hydrogen-powered cars at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Throughout the Day:
- Power Up program, with assistance from SWEPCO Arsenal Hill Power Plant engineers. The program will also include information on engineering as a career choice.
- Guests can take pictures with a lineman in SWEPCO’s photo booth in Sci-Port’s lobby.
- Guests can sign up for SWEPCO Alerts.
- Children can color a Louie the Lightning Bug mask, and the first 500 children will receive Louie antenna visors.
- Celebrate a Scientist will highlight Gustaf de Laval, who contributed to the design of steam turbines and dairy machinery. Guests can visit the SOAR cart to receive a Gustaf de Laval trading card and complete a steam engine exercise.
