One of Shreveport-Bossier’s largest tourist destinations is now even more international visitor-friendly.
Officials cut the ribbon Tuesday on the Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Program sales tax refund center at the Outlets at Louisiana Boardwalk.
“Many international visitors come to Shreveport-Bossier,” said Stacy Brown, president of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. She backed up her statement with numbers from a report by Visa.
According to the 2012 VisaVue report, international visitors spent more than $2.5 million in Shreveport-Bossier last year.
“And that’s just with their VISA® cards,” Brown said.
Bill McFadden, General Manager of the Outlets at Louisiana Boardwalk, echoed Brown’s sentiment. “International visitors like to spend money here,” he said.
Lisa Johnson, President and CEO of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce said tourism is a big business in this area, and all have a responsibility to nurture it.
“We must all remember that we are all ambassadors to our visitors,” she said.
The LTFS program provides international visitors with an exemption from sales taxes for most retail purchases
Louisiana Tax Free Shopping is a state program created in 1988 to attract foreign visitors by offering sales tax refunds on purchases of clothing, electronic and other personal goods.
The new rebate center is located at the customer service desk at the Boardwalk.
