RUSTON — After x-rays and a CT scan showed no bone fracture in Louisiana Tech junior guard Raheem Appleby’s left ankle, an MRI on Monday revealed ligament damage.

The Bulldogs leading scorer will be sidelined for six to eight weeks, however further evaluation by doctors may determine that season-ending surgery is needed.

The injury was suffered in the first half of the Conference USA opener versus Florida Atlantic on Jan. 9.

Appleby has been the team’s leading scorer each of the past three seasons and was averaging 16.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Earlier this year he became the 35th Bulldog to eclipse the 1,000 career scoring mark.
