Tennis: City Championships tourney concludes Sunday with semifinals, finals at Bossier Tennis Center

Sunday’s men’s open singles semifinals are set in The City Championships tennis tournament at Bossier Tennis Center.

Top-seeded John McGregor faces No. 3 Todd Killen and No. 4 John Gray Pou meets No. 2 Anthony McMaster at 10 a.m. The winners face off at 2:30 p.m. for the title and the $1,000 first prize.

In quarterfinal matches Saturday, McGregor defeated Calvary Baptist standout and reigning Division IV state champ Andrew Otzenberger 6-3, 6-4, McMaster downed Kirk Fisher 6-3, 2-0 (retired), Killen topped Dakotah Bobo 7-6, 6-4 and Pou dropped Stafford Yerger 6-4, 6-1.

McGregor, the tennis director at the Monroe Athletic Center, is a former top junior player from South Africa who went on to star at Tulsa. Killen is the pro at Bossier Tennis Center and a three-time City champion.

Pou was a four-time Class 5A state singles champion at Byrd from 1996-99. McMaster is also a former junior standout and star at Centenary College.

In the men’s singles consolation semifinals at 9:30, Kevin Quinlan plays Jared Roge and Michael Lauseng takes on Will Downs. The consolation title match is at 2:30.

The men’s doubles title match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
