ELM GROVE – Services for Terry W. Overfelt, 72, will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Rose-Neath’s Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Ed Baswell, pastor of Clarion Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA.

Terry was born to Ola and Opal Simmons Overfelt on February 12, 1941 in Horse Cave, KY and passed away January 11, 2014 in Bossier City, LA. He was a welder and attended Clarion Baptist Church.

His parents; sisters, Norma Reed and Virginia Patenaude and brothers, Billy and Jerry Overfelt preceded Terry in death.

Terry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy R. Overfelt of Elm Grove, LA; son, Troy W. Overfelt and wife Tina of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Joyce Lanham and husband Ken of Lexington, IN and grandson, Winston Overfelt.

Honoring Terry as pallbearers will be Jerry Ray, Tom Lewis, Roman White, Lewis Welch, David Wojecki and Joe Cooper.

Memorials may be made to Clarion Baptist Church.

 

Eleanor Scroggins

BOSSIER CITY – Eleanor Scroggins, 87, entered eternal rest on Saturday January 11, 2014 at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

She was born February 13, 1926 in Natchitoches, LA. Throughout her adult life she was a sacrificing, selfless, and loving woman caring for and mentoring many people. As a young adult, she entered the field of nursing ultimately retiring as head operating room nurse from LSU Med. Center in Shreveport. She also gave willingly of herself, caring for her mother and sisters as they advanced in years undergoing various illnesses. Eleanor was a gift from God as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be greatly missed by all.

Her passions in later years were socializing and championing in friendly games of Scrabble, being a master at solving crossword puzzles, and looking forward to watching her favorite TV game show Jeopardy. In addition, she loved attending her church and weekly Wednesday Bible study.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elva and Carolyn “Carrie” Childs Scroggins, as well as her sisters Nellie and Rose and her brothers Ellis, Elva Jr., Leonard, and Clarence, and best friend Frances Pingrey.

She is survived by two brothers and their wives: Curtis J. and Kathleen Scroggins, and Donald R. and Sondra Scroggins. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held Wednesday January 15, 2014 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home (Hwy. 80, Haughton) from noon to 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service and subsequent burial at Hill Crest.
