Last week, Bossier Parish school students started back to school for the new 2014-2015 school year.
The new school year is always an exciting time. Back when I was still in school, I always enjoyed seeing my friends that I had not seen over the summer months, making new friends and having new teachers. Plus, I most assuredly always looked forward to the start of the Louisiana State Fair, Halloween (candy), Thanksgiving and Christmas. Back To School was always a fun time for me and also a chance for a somewhat fresh start with the new school year.
Now that I am older and many years removed from being a student, the start of the new school year has different meaning. In thinking of the new school year these days, one of the first things that I think about is high school football. I dearly love being on the sidelines on a Thursday or Friday night taking photos for the newspaper at a Bossier Parish High School football game (especially when the weather starts cooling off). Or, a late Tuesday afternoon spent photographing a middle school football game. And pretty soon, Saturday afternoons will mostly be spent watching college football with my Dad. Quite simply, these are some of my favorite things to do and I look forward to these activities for months ahead of time. Of course, this means that Fall will soon be in the air.
Speaking of Fall fast approaching, the weather will soon be cooling off and the holidays are not that far away. Thus, one of my favorite times of the year is here! And all of these years later, I still think of the new school year as a chance for a new beginning. Furthermore, I still get both excited and energized when this time of year arrives!
In closing, I want to wish all of our students in Bossier Parish (and the area) a very successful and safe school year. To all teachers, administrators and school staffs, I hope that you too have a great school year. Thank you for the jobs that you all do in helping to educate the youth and future leaders of our great community and beyond. If our newspaper can be of service to your school in any manner whatsoever, please do not hesitate to call upon us!
