The Spotlight: Bossier City’s Farewell to Party Central and More Community News

We’ve heard it said that “all good things must end.” Bossier City is now witnessing the end of a great thing: Party Central Family Fun Center. If you grew up in Bossier City or the surrounding area, you have likely visited Party Central. It has always been a fun, exciting, and safe place for families. Owners Bubba and Bernadette Chandler expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their employees, the community, and all their supporters. Mayor Chandler invited Bubba and Bernadette to City Hall to present them with a well-deserved proclamation and a key to the city. Bossier City cherishes the memories created at Party Central and is grateful for the more than 30 years it has been a part of the community.

In sports news, congratulations to the new NBA Champions, the Boston Celtics. Boston defeated the Dallas Mavericks in a five-game series, with Boston’s victory never in doubt. As the NBA season ends, sports fans are beginning to feel a touch of football fever. However, patience is required as football is still a few months away.

This week, the Bossier City Council passed the first reading of an amendment that will allow local retailers to sell high-content alcohol on Sundays. If passed, this will enable restaurants, liquor stores, and retail stores to sell liquor. The anticipated benefits of this amendment include keeping tax dollars in Bossier and a much-needed increase in sales tax revenue.

The Bossier City Charter Commission meeting was in the news this past week. There were some disagreements regarding the agenda that became a bit testy. Without a quorum present, cooler heads prevailed after a round of discussions.

Juneteenth was recognized in our community and declared a state holiday by Governor Landry. During his comments at the City Council meeting, Mayor Chandler encouraged the entire community to honor Juneteenth. He emphasized that he views Juneteenth not only as the “end” of slavery but also as the “beginning” of freedom. He spoke of how blessed we are to live in a free nation and stated, “All freedom should be celebrated.”

As you drive around town, you will notice several street improvement projects underway. Please be patient and view these as signs of progress. I-20 construction is on schedule, and patience is needed there as well.

Summer is here, according to both the temperatures and the calendar. Make sure you stay safe in the heat and avoid heat-related emergencies. In our next issue, we will provide some safety tips on how to protect yourself during the hot summer.
