Welcome back to the Spotlight! Despite another week of soggy weather in Bossier City, the community spirit remains undampened.

The Diamond Youth League World Series Baseball Tournament officially opened on July 26th, attracting thousands of parents, coaches, and young athletes ready to showcase their skills. The tournament, a collaboration between the City of Bossier and Bossier Parks and Recreation, promises exciting games throughout the week at Tinsley Ball Park.

In other news, Mayor Tommy Chandler held a press conference last Thursday to announce that the Term Limits Coalition of Bossier City had completed a new term limits petition. This petition is set to be submitted to the Registrar’s office. Mayor Chandler, who campaigned on this issue, expressed satisfaction that the community will have the final say on implementing term limits. The topic is also a key focus of the Bossier City Charter Commission.

The city recently hosted the International Council of Corvette Clubs, bringing nearly 400 Corvettes to the area. The event was a spectacle for car enthusiasts and the general public alike, showcasing an impressive array of vehicles.

The Shop Til You Drop event also took place last week at the Civic Center, featuring a diverse range of items for sale and was deemed a success by organizers and attendees.

On the environmental front, Mayor Chandler joined forces with Mayor Arceneaux to support “The Greatest American Clean-Up,” a collaborative effort between Keep Bossier Beautiful, Visit Shreveport Bossier, Shreveport Green, and the cities of Shreveport and Bossier. This initiative emphasizes the importance of community involvement in maintaining clean, attractive cities.

Looking ahead, the Louisiana Municipal Association will hold its annual conference starting August 1st in Shreveport Bossier, bringing together mayors from across the state.

Bossier Parish Schools are gearing up for their Military Back-to-School Night on July 30th at the Bossier Civic Center. This event is designed to welcome military families to the community and help them navigate school options for their children.

As we wrap up this week’s Spotlight, I encourage everyone to have a safe week and consider attending the upcoming Bossier City Council meeting on July 30th. Stay informed by following us on Facebook @bossiercitylouisiana. Have a great week, Bossier City!
