BOSSIER CITY – A memorial service for Thomas “Al” Allen Martin, Jr., 87 will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 8, 2014, at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 3301 St. Matthias Dr., Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Father Bill McBride. There will be a visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the McMichael Room at St. Matthias prior to the service.

Al was born in Cotton Valley, LA to T.A. and Clara Martin on November 24, 1926 and passed away on March 6, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tommy Martin and sister, Dorothy Martin Kunard. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Mary R. Martin; son, Bennett Arthur Thomas; daughter, Sharon Gail Patton and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Brenda Horneman and husband, Rob; Derek Thomas and wife, Christine; Traci Waters and husband, Daren; Adam Thomas, Carrie Bowman and husband, Jonathan; numerous great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; nieces, Lynda Loe and Michelle Strain; nephew, Daniel Loe; and 2 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew.

Al was a graduate of Fair Park High school, a veteran of US Marine Corps. He was an employee at KCS Railroad for over 30 years and retired as President of KCS Transport. He was a Mason with the Fair Park Lodge and a member of many organizations through KCS. He was a member of the Vestry of St. Matthias and served as Junior Warden. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to all the many caregivers and to the staff at NWLA Veterans Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made in honor of Al to St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 3301 St. Matthias Dr., Shreveport, LA., Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, www.jdrf.org or to the donor’s choice.
