Three parish teams make baseball playoffs

The Airline Vikings, Haughton Buccaneers and Benton Tigers will be participating in the 2015 LHSAA baseball playoffs.

District 1 champion Airline (24-10), the No. 11 seed, hosts district rival Byrd (19-15), the No. 22 seed, in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. In another first-round game, No. 21 Haughton (19-12) travels to No. 12 Live Oak (20-10).

Byrd and Haughton finished tied for third in District 1-5A. No. 23 seed Captain Shreve (19-15), which finished second, visits No. 10 Destrehan (26-7) in the first round.

In a Class 4A first-round game, District 1 champion Benton (25-9) hosts No. 29 Rayne (9-15) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Airline swept Byrd in the teams’ three-game district series, but all three games were close and could have gone either way. The Vikings won 2-1, 6-4 and 8-5.

Live Oak finished third in District 4-5A. Rayne finished fifth in District 4-4A.
