BYRD NOTES: Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 4 in Class 5A, averaging 55.6 points per game and allowing 21.4. Byrd coming off a 55-12 victory over Lakeshore. Jackets’ closest game was 56-36 over Mansfield in Week 4.

AIRLINE NOTES: Byrd victory in final regular-season game last year denied Vikings outright District 1-5A title. Vikings trailed Class 4A Neville No. 1 14-13 at the half before falling 30-20. Jacob James made first start at QB last week, passing for 159 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 52.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Byrd — RB Louis Mills, RB Dominic Haggerty. Airline — DT Charlie Matthews, RB Kavonte Johnson, LB Brynden Vance.

 

Haughton vs. Southwood

LAST YEAR: Haughton won 52-16

RECORDS: Haughton 4-1, Southwood 1-4

HAUGHTON NOTES: Will Haines expected to be back at quarterback. Haines sat out last week’s win over St. Mary’s after suffering a concussion in Week 4 against Ruston. All-District offensive lineman Travis White, a three-year starter, also expected to return.

SOUTHWOOD NOTES: Cowboys have lost four straight since season-opening win over Minden. Southwood has scored only one touchdown in its last two games. Cowboys coming off 24-0 loss to DeRidder.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Haughton — WR Javonte Woodard, WR PJ Douglas, RB Jarred Craft. Southwood — WR Chrisna Black, QB Keyton Crowder.

 

North Webster at Bossier

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Bossier’s Memorial Stadium

LAST YEAR: North Webster won 23-13

RECORDS: North Webster 3-2, Bossier 1-4

NORTH WEBSTER NOTES: Knights looking for third straight victory. North Webster has scored 104 points in its last two games. Knights quarterback Alex Taylor a threat running and passing. North Webster coming off 42-14 victory over Delhi.

BOSSIER NOTES: Two-time defending District 1-3A champion Bearkats coming off first victory of season, 21-8, over Block. Chris Williams leads Bossier with 224 yards rushing on 44 carries. Avery Jones returned an interception for a touchdown last week. He also had four tackles, including one for loss.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: North Webster — QB Alex Taylor. Bossier — RB/LB Isaiah McKinsey, RB Chris Williams, QB Brandon Harris.

 

La. New Tech at Ringgold

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Ringgold

LAST YEAR: La. New Tech won 41-6

RECORDS: La. New Tech 2-3, Ringgold 2-3

LA. NEW TECH NOTES: Lions looking for third straight victory. New Tech coming off a 26-16 victory over North Caddo. Lions QB Logan Allen is the leading passer in Bossier Parish with 1,358 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is the second leading rusher with 343 yards.

RINGGOLD NOTES: Redskins coming off 41-20 loss to Logansport, which fell to New Tech 48-41 in Week 4. Ringgold has wins over Northwood-Lena, 26-18, and Tensas 28-0. Ringgold fell to North Webster 62-6 in Week 4.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: La. New Tech — QB Logan Allen, WR Tray Harris, RB Desean Morris.
