Parkway at Haughton

RECORDS: Parkway 7-0, 3-0; Haughton 6-2, 2-1

PARKWAY NOTES: Panthers can clinch a share of the District 1-5A title for the second straight year with a victory. Parkway, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A, is coming off a 52-29 victory over Byrd.

HAUGHTON NOTES: Bucs can move into a tie for the 1-5A lead with a victory. Haughton is coming off a 19-14 victory over Captain Shreve. RB Jarred Craft, a Louisiana Tech commitment, played only two plays. He hasn’t been at full strength since suffering a sprained ankle in Week 6 against Southwood. Haughton will be in the playoffs but is on the bubble as far as hosting a home game.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Parkway — LB Tray Walker, DB Marquis King, OL Terrell Grimsley. Haughton — DB/RB Jerrod Craft, QB Will Haines, PK Benny Broadway.

 

Capt. Shreve at Airline

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Airline Stadium

LAST YEAR: Airline won 40-13

RECORDS: Capt. Shreve 2-6, 0-3; Airline 4-4, 2-1

CAPTAIN SHREVE NOTES: Gators led Haughton 14-0 in the first quarter last week before falling 19-14. Shreve has played solid defense all season, but the Gators lack gamebreakers on offense.

AIRLINE NOTES: Vikings coming off a 24-0 victory over Southwood. A win tonight will give Airline a chance to earn at least a share of the District 1-5A title with a victory over Parkway next week. Vikings are No. 20 in the latest LHSAA power rankings.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Airline — WR Darian Germany, DL OJ Smith, QB Jacob James. Captain Shreve — DL Jaylin Huey, LB

 

Northwood at Benton

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Benton

LAST YEAR: Northwood won 56-21

RECORDS: Benton 4-4, 3-2; Northwood 7-1, 5-0

BENTON NOTES: Tigers are riding a two-game winning streak, including a 28-15 victory over Minden last week. Benton is No. 20 in the latest LHSAA power ratings and would move closer to the top 16 with a win. The top 16 teams host first-round games.

NORTHWOOD NOTES: Falcons have already clinched at share of the District 1-4A title and can win it outright with a victory tonight. QB Jerrick Peterson saw his first action of the season since Week 1 in last week’s 33-21 victory over Huntington.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Benton — DB Jaret Gill, QB Jordan Shaffer, LB Gage Carroway. Northwood — RB Aaron Varelas, QB Jerrick Peterson.

 

Mansfield at Bossier

WHERE: Bossier’s Memorial Stadium

LAST YEAR: Did not play

RECORDS: Mansfield 4-4, 2-1; Bossier 1-7, 0-3

MANSFIELD NOTES: Wolverines are coming off a 21-7 loss to North Webster after winning the previous two weeks. At No. 24 in the 3A power ratings, Mansfield will be a playoff team.

BOSSIER NOTES: Bearkats coming off a 42-0 loss to Class 3A No. 4 Evangel. Bossier managed just two first downs and 38 total yards. RBs Chris Williams and Chris Hall have combined for 852 yards rushing.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Mansfield — QB Dominique Hill, WR Jimmie Jones. Bossier — LB Isaiah McKinsey, RB Chris Hall, RB Chris Williams.

 

La. New Tech at Arcadia

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Arcadia

LAST YEAR: La. New Tech won 50-0

RECORDS: La. New Tech 4-4, 2-1; Arcadia 2-6, 2-1

LA. NEW TECH NOTES: Lions had four-game winning streak snapped last week, 54-24, against Cedar Creek. At No. 12 in the Class 1A power ratings, New Tech can wrap up a home first-round playoff game with a victory.

ARCADIA NOTES: Hornets have won two straight after starting the season 0-6, including last week’s 33-32 victory over Grambling. Arcadia has scored 63 points in its last two games after scoring just 60 in its first six.
