An outstanding effort in the relays propelled the Bossier Bearkats to a runner-up finish in the Region I boys track and field meet Wednesday in Lake Charles.
The Bearkats scored 60 points. North Webster won with 86 and Evangel was third with 56.
The top three individuals and relay teams qualified for the Class 3A state meet on Saturday, May 9, at LSU.
Bossier took two of the three relays and finished second in the other.
Kelvin Brooks, John Langston, Juwan Wells and Cartavia Cook teamed to win the 4X200 in 1:28.68. North Webster was second in 1:30.21.
Brooks, Cook, Wells and Langston teamed again to win the 4X400 in 3:26.78. Evangel was second in 3:29.73. Bossier is the defending state champ in the event.
The foursome of Brooks, Cook, Wells and Robert Green finished second in the 4X100 in 43.25. North Webster won in 43.13.
Cook had a good day, winning the long jump with a 21-9. Kendall Simmons of Richwood was second with a 21-1/2. BPCC basketball signee Kentrell Hardy qualified for state by finishing third with a 20-4 1/2.
Kelvin Brooks took second in the 200 in 22.40, .13 seconds behind Tyler Taylor of Carroll.
Aaeron Smallwood was another regional runner-up. He threw 128-3 1/2 in the discus. Jaron Johnson of Marksville won with a 130-4.
Bossier had two state qualifiers in the girls division.
Bree Webb finished third in the 100 in 12.81. North Webster’s Kentoria Thomas won in 12.69.
Alyshia Crismond took third in the 800 in 2:47.35. Mysherie Johnson of Marksville won in 2:28.21.
