Track and field: Cope takes girls, 8th-grade boys district titles; Benton wins 7th-grade boys

Cope won two titles and Benton won one in the Bossier Parish Middle School District Track and Field Championships held Tuesday at Haughton High.

Cope scored 147 points to win the girls division. Elm Grove was runner-up with 74 and Benton third with 62.

Cope amassed 102 points in the eighth-grade boys division. Benton placed second with 87 and Haughton third with 79.

Benton tallied 115 points in the seventh-grade boys division, just eight points ahead of runner-up Elm Grove. Cope was third with 57.

Cope’s Avery Meeks and Benton’s TeQuaza Chambers were double winners in the girls division.

Meeks won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 50.19 seconds and the 1,600 in 6:20.52. Chambers took the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches and the 400 with a 1:05.85.

Cope swept all three relays, taking the 4X100 in 54.22, the 4X200 in 1:53.74 and the 4X400 in 4:48.91.

Other individual district champions were Benton’s Jada Anderson (long jump, 15-0), Cope’s Ski Thompson (100 hurdles, 18.02), Elm Grove’s Ashley Roberts (discus, 65-8 1/2), Cope’s Nakiya Rhone (shot put, 28-1/2), Greenacres’ Shandria Harvey (100, 13.50) and Cope’s Malia Morton (200, 28.44).

Harvey also finished second in the 200 in 29.00. Cope’s Kari Smith and Iesha Taylor finished tied for second in the high jump at 4-6.

Other individual district runners-up were Benton’s Adriana Howard (long jump, 14-6), Elm Grove’s Peyton Pipes (1,600, 6:32.90), Cope’s Taylor (100 hurdles, 18.48), Haughton’s Reagan Jordstad (discus, 63-0.5), Greenacres’ Madison McDonald (shot put, 27-4.5), Cope’s Keiarra McCoy (100, 13.89), Cope’s Landry Wade (800, 2:52.08) and Elm Grove’s Nicole Kellogg (400, 1:07.07).

Elm Grove finished second in the 4X100 relay in 54.41 and the 4X200 in 1:55.91. Rusheon was second in the 4X400 in 4:57.69.

Benton’s Aaron Wheeler had a big day in the eighth-grade boys division.

He won the 100 in 12.15 and the 100 hurdles in 13.95 and finished second in the 200 in 25.52.

Cope’s Brandon Marshall matched him with two firsts and a second. Marshall took the 200 in 25.22 and the 400 in 58.18 and finished second in the long jump with a 17-5.

Cope’s Will Dart completed his middle school career undefeated with victories in the 800 and the 1,600. Dart ran a 2:19.05 in the 800 and a 5:04.66 in the 1,600.

Eighth-grade district champs in the field events were Haughton’s Monta Bonapart (high jump, 6-0), Haughton’s Hunter Jenkins (long jump, 17-8), Greenacres’ Kedrick Henderson (shot put, 43-0) and Elm Grove’s Ethan Tasche (discus, 114-3.5).

The district champion relay teams were Haughton (4X100, 47.91), Rusheon (4X200, 1:40.54) and Greenacres (4X400, 4:01.13).

Other individual runners-up were Cope’s Brian Marshall (100, 12.20), Benton’s McClain Smith (400, 58.25), Greenacres’ Josh Burns (1,600, 5:20.71), Greenacres’ Ken Hunter (100 hurdles, 14.75), Haughton’s C.J. McWilliams (high jump, 5-8), Haughton’s Knoa Reid (shot put, 42-7) and Greenacres’ Will Tynes (discus, 104-7.5).

The runner-up relay teams were Benton (4X100, 48.52), Haughton (4X200, 1:41.05) and Cope (4X400, 4:07.18).

Elm Grove’s Jamal Asberry won three events in the seventh-grade boys division. He was the only triple winner in any division.

Asberry won the 100 in 11.86, the 200 in 25.48 and the long jump with an 18-0.

Benton’s Dylan Garrett swept the 800 and 1,600. He ran the 800 in 2:28.08 and the 1,600 in 5:20.76.

Other district champions were Greenacres’ Jordan Boyd (400, 58.50), Cope’s Devin Bilbo (100 hurdles, 16.00), Benton’s Tyler Williams (high jump, 5-3), Haughton’s De’Mareya Howard (shot put, 41-7) and Benton’s Clint Lasiter (discus, 103-9).

Cope took the 4X100 relay in 49.70, Benton won the 4X200 in 1:43.94 and Greenacres claimed the 4X400 in 4:13.20.

Benton’s Williams also posted a runner-up finish in the long jump with a 17-2.

Cope’s Jordan Harvey finished second in the 100 in 12.08 and the 200 in 26.85. Elm Grove’s Anthony Salazar was runner-up in the 400 in 59.26 and the 1,600 in 5:34.04.

Other individual district runners-up were Benton’s Nick Randall (800, 2:31.63), Elm Grove’s Gabe Larry (100 hurdles, 16.15), Haughton Jayden Walton (high jump, 5-2), Benton’s Owen Wainscott (shot put, 41-5) and Elm Grove’s Noah Wolf (discus, 88-5.25).

Elm Grove finished second in the 4X200 relay in 1:46.80 and the 4X400 in 4:20.50. Benton was the 4X100 runner-up in 49.85.
