Elm Grove, Benton and Cope won titles in the first Bossier Parish middle school track and field meet of the season held at Benton last week.
Elm Grove took the eighth-grade championship and Benton finished second. Benton won the seventh-grade title and Cope was second. Cope captured the girls championship and Benton was runner-up.
Inclement weather prevented all events from being completed.
Benton’s Scott Perez was a double winner in eighth-grade division, taking the 800-meter run in 2:21.60 and the 1,600 in 5:12.96. Benton’s Reese Yarbrough was runner-up in both events.
Rusheon’s Daniel Moore finished second in the 100 and long jump.
Other first-place winners were Elm Grove’s Amani Larry (hurdles, 16.61), Benton’s Brad Fream (discus, 106-2), Haughton’s Quint Mitchell (long jump, 17-9), Haughton’s Derion Phill (100, 12.13), Greenacres’ Londell Delanie (shot put, 43-4.5) and Elm Grove’s Ted Nelhams (400, 60.13).
Benton (4X200) and Haughton (4X100) won relays.
Other eighth-grade runners-up were Cope’s Bryson Dudensing (hurdles), Elm Grove’s Kyle Scott (discus), Rusheon’s Montrez Henderson (shot put) and Rusheon’s Travontray Griffin (400).
Cope’s Will Dart was a double winner in the seventh-grade division. He took the 1,600 in 5:11.74 and the 800 in 2:26.23. Haughton’s CJ McWilliams won the hurdles in 16.07 and finished second in the long jump.
Other seventh-grade winners were Cope’s Branden Hamment (discus, 92-5), Benton’s Josh Smith (shot put, 36-1.5), Elm Grove’s Quentin Beckstrand (400, 59.50), Rusheon’s Ja’Keldrick Thomas (100, 12.05) and Haughton’s Hunter Jenkins (long jump, 16-2).
Greenacres swept the 4X200 and 4X100 relays.
Other seventh-grade runners-up were Benton’s Daegan Covington (1,600), Elm Grove’s David Bennett (discus), Benton’s John Smith (shot put), Benton’s McClain Smith (400), Greenacres’ Javoris White (hurdles), Benton’s Justin Cleveland (800) and Cope’s Brian Marshall (100).
Cope’s Avery Meeks and Benton’s Makenzie Chaffin were double winners in the girls division. Meeks took the 1,600 in 6:21.60 and the 800 in 2:56.87. Chaffin won the 400 in 71.30 and the long jump with a 13-9.
Cope’s Brooklyn Brandon won the shot put with a 27-3.5 and finished second in the discus.
Other winners in the girls division were Benton’s Taylor Davis (high jump, 4-8), Haughton’s Casey Hernandez (100, 14.17), Cope’s Ski thompson (hurdles, 18.80) and Benton’s Abbie Wynn (discus (69-10).
Other girls runners-up were Haughton’s Shelby Roy (1,600), Cope’s Kari Smith (high jump, 4-7), Cope’s Chloe Hawkins (long jump), Benton’s Haley Smith (100), Benton’s Peyton Reeder (hurdles), Cope’s Alizeonna King (800), Benton’s Karemeshia Bradley (shot put) and Benton’s Taquaizia Chambers (400).
Cope’s Ta’mayah McMillon, Brooklyn Casey, Malia Morton and Keiarra McCoy combined to win the 4X200 relay.
