Track and field: Haughton boys, Parkway girls take titles in Don Millen Bearkat Relays

The Haughton Buccaneers and the Parkway Lady Panthers won the boys and girls titles, respectively, in the Don Millen Bearkat Relays Friday at Airline.

The meet was postponed from Thursday because of inclement weather and only running events were held.

Haughton scored 98 points to 68 for runner-up Parkway in the boys division. Airline was third with 61.

Parkway tallied 104 in the girls division. Airline was second with 89 and North Webster third with 77.

Haughton sprinter Josh Lister was the high-point winner in the boys division. He swept the 100- and 200-meter dashes and ran a leg on the Bucs’ winning 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams.

Lister ran a blistering 10.31 in the 100 and a 20.87 in the 200. North Webster’s Xavious Eason, the runner-up in the Class 3A state meet last year, finished second in the 100 in 10.69. Northwood’s Marquez Stevenson, a University of Houston football signee, finished second in the 200 in 21.82.

Haughton’s Antonio Woodfork, who swept the 110 and 300 hurdles, was named Track MVP. Woodfork ran a 14.26 in the 110 and a 38.52 in the 300, winning both events easily. He was the Class 5A runner-up in the 300 last year.

Lister teamed with Kynan Hayes, D’Kovin Ware and Lavonta Gipson to win the 4X100 relay in 41.92. The same foursome won the 4X200 in 1:29.37.

Parkway distance runner Sara Funderburk was the high-point winner in the girls division. She swept the 1,600 and 3,200 runs in dominating fashion and anchored the Lady Panthers’ winning 4X400 relay team.

Funderburk ran a 5:21.37 in the 1,600. Teammate Lindsey Hutcheson finished second in 6:12.83. Funderburk’s time in the 3,200 was 12:16.36. Airline’s Bethanie Dunn was second in 13:15.84.

Funderburk teamed with Hutcheson, Madison Brogan and Miranda Scotten for a 4:18.05 in the 4X400.

North Webster’s Jada Greenard was named Track MVP. She won the 100 and anchored the Lady Knights’ winning 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams.

Other winners from Bossier Parish schools in the boys division were Haughton’s Duncan Smith (400, 52.65), Parkway’s David Morgan (1,600, 4:58.62), Parkway’s Cameron Rogers (800, 2:06.93) and Airline’s Seth Papineau (1,600, 10:03.53).

Bossier’s Robert Green, Juwan Wells, Keimun Daniels and John Langston won the 4X400 in 3:36.99. Haughton was second in 3:43.24.

Airline’s Brittney Roberson had a very good day. She won the 400 in 1:00.61, edging her sister Jasmine, who ran a 1:02.22. Brittney also finised second in the 200 in 27.05.

Other winners from Bossier Parish schools in the girls division were Airline’s Briana Jacobs (100 hurdles, 17.00) and Parkway’s Angene Tellis (300 hurdles, 52.70).
