The Haughton Buccaneers won the boys’ title in the Griffin Spring Break Invitational last week at North DeSoto.
Airline finished runner-up in the girls’ division.
Haughton scored 98.5 points in the boys’ division. Natchitoches Central was second with 92. Airline finished fifth with 64.
Airline scored 112 in the girls’ division. Ruston won with 175.5. Parkway finished fourth with 53.5.
Zachary Smith and Chase Grimsley were Haughton’s winners in the boys’ division. Smith won the 800-meter run in 2:02.51 and Grimsley won the pole vault with a leap of 12-6.
Antonio Woodfork didn’t win, but he scored a lot of points for the Bucs. He finished second in the 110 hurdles in 14.56. Reigning Class 4A state champ Christian Boyd of North DeSoto win in 14.27.
Woodfork also finished second in the high jump with a 6-0 and third in the 300 hurdles.
Haughton’s Josh Lister took second in the 100 in 10.80. Ruston’s Keitavious Walter won in 10.56. Javonte Woodard finished second in the long jump with a 21-2. The Bucs got a third-place finish from sophomore David Leitnaker in the pole vault.
Airline’s Jack Griffin and Parkway’s Jacob Hammons were the only other winners from a Bossier Parish school in the boys’ division. Griffin won the shot put with a toss of 134-9. Hammons won the 1,600 in 4:50.82. Parkway’s Nathan Poovey finished third in the 1,600.
Parkway’s Sara Funderburk, Airline’s Kei McCoy, and Haughton’s Chelcy Swint and Inez Green were winners in the girls’ division.
Funderburk won the 800 in 2:19.89. McCoy took the triple jump with a 34-2. Swint captured the discus with a 94-0. Green won the shot put with a 37-0.
Airline’s Isabelle Shamblin finished second in the 1,600 in 5:41.09 and the 3,200 in 13:05.77.
Airline’s Brittney Roberson was second in the 400 in 1:00.69.
Third-place finishers from Bossier Parish schools were Parkway’s Celeste Cordova (1,600), Parkway’s Ariel McGaffey (3,200), Haughton’s Jenna Blank (pole vault), Parkway’s Jesse Bonnevier (discus) and Airline’s Madison Rowland (javelin).
Plain Dealing freshman Teunna Perry had an impressive showing in the Plain Dealing meet. She cleared 18 feet in the long jump and 35 feet in the triple jump, winning both easily. Perry finished second in the Class 1A long jump at the state meet last year with a 16-11.25.
