A truck remains submerged in the Red Chute Bayou at Sligo Road this evening, and a father and two children are being treated for injuries following a driving lesson mishap in the nearby business parking lot.
Bossier Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were dispatched to the bridge under construction around 4:45 p.m. Saturday when the truck ended up in the bayou after a father was attempting to instruct his teen son how to drive in the Sligo Country Store parking lot.
The Dodge 1500 truck rolled down the steep embankment into the water, drifted about 100 feet before it became mostly submerged in the water. The father, son and another young passenger were able to safely get out of the water and back on dry land. Troopers with the Louisiana State Police and firefighters from South Bossier Fire District Two responded, and the truck occupants were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
Divers with the Bossier Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash scene to assist in removing the submerged truck. However, recovery of the vehicle will have to wait until Sunday morning with daylight and when a wrecker with the appropriate towing ability is available.
